I-BEAM TECHNOLOGY

Breaking a 100-year-old tradition, the patented I-Beam Technology redefined the saddle-to-post connection by replacing the rails with a single beam that runs along the bottom of the saddle itself. In the late ‘90s, ideation stemmed from the demanding terrain of Whistler Mountain, British Columbia, Canada, where bike parts are put to the test and seldom pass. Bent, broken and popped saddle rails were the norm and SDG’s lead designer had the vision to create a saddle-to-post connection that featured a beam rather than rails and hence, the I-Beam Technology was born. Top racers from all disciplines quickly embraced the Technology and helped test the early prototypes. Early-adopting gravity bosses like Aaron Chase, Kyle Strait, Sam Hill, Eric Porter, John Kirkaldie and even XC top-guns like Geoff Kabush and Todd Wells were in the I-Beam Technology camp early on. Lisa Sher and April Lawyer weighed in as well. This direct, honest feedback from the globe’s most talented off-road bicycle racers translated into a better product, without question. Leading mechanics such as the legendary wrenchman Monkey and GT’s John Canepa, provided years of real-world race knowledge and insight.

In 2008, the I-Beam Technology made its debut in the Olympic Games! Mike Day and Jill Kintner represented the United States in BMX’s inaugural Games aboard SDG – a Brand landmark to be sure. Both athletes medaled, silver and bronze respectively.

Clean, simple and now in the third generation, the I-Beam Technology continues to gain popularity with the all-mountain set, cross country aficianados, dirt jumpers, BMXers and professional road racers as well. There are nine saddle options, offering unparalleled versatility – virtually a model for every riding style and body type. A simple, one-bolt clamping device makes for easy installations and fine tuning. The SDG I-Beam post features micro-adjustment, enabling the rider to hit the ‘sweet spot,’ uniting comfort and performance.
